Pochade paintings

Plein air (or Alla Prima) paintings are done on the spot and almost always not touched afterwards. I allow between one and one and a half hours maximum. After that the light and shadows have changed too much to continue. I use 2 sizes of pochade boxes 8 x 6 and 12 x 10 inches. A pochade box is a small easel, palette and materials container combined.
